Ukrainian Strikes Target Wildberries Warehouses Near St. Petersburg, Tver, and Crimea
Ukraine's attacks on key Wildberries logistics hubs in Russia raise concerns over supply chain disruptions affecting American business interests.
Ukraine has intensified attacks on logistics facilities of Wildberries (WB), Russia's largest online retailer, targeting warehouses in the Leningrad region near St. Petersburg, Tver, and annexed Crimea. These strikes have sparked multiple fires and temporarily disrupted the operations of key Wildberries distribution centers.
Impact on Russian Logistics and Potential US Business Implications
On the night of July 24, footage circulated online showing fires engulfing Wildberries warehouses in the village of Novosaratovka, just outside St. Petersburg’s administrative boundary, as well as storage sites in Tver and Simferopol, Crimea. Telegram-based OSINT analysis and eyewitness reports confirmed at least two separate fire outbreaks near St. Petersburg, with accompanying videos depicting the moments of attack in Leningrad Oblast.
Wildberries' press office announced a temporary suspension of operations at its logistics complexes in Shushary and Utkina Zavod, both in St. Petersburg, citing safety concerns. Similarly, the sorting center in Simferopol was evacuated following the strikes. While authorities in the affected regions have yet to comment publicly, the attacks mark a continuation of Ukraine’s strategic targeting of Russian logistics infrastructure.
“The assaults have disrupted roughly 10% of Wildberries’ entire logistics footprint, highlighting vulnerabilities in supply chain resilience amid escalating conflict,” an industry analysis noted.
Previous strikes have damaged facilities in Elektrostal near Moscow, Kotovsk in Tambov Oblast, Krasnodar, and Nevinnomyssk in Stavropol Krai. According to reports, these attacks have cumulatively affected more than half a million square meters of warehouse space, resulting in casualties and material losses.
From a US business perspective, these developments are significant. Wildberries is a critical player in the Russian e-commerce market, and disruptions to its operations could ripple across global supply chains, including those involving American companies. Furthermore, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has asserted that some Wildberries logistics centers were allegedly involved in supplying components used in drone production, adding a geopolitical dimension to these attacks.
American companies with interests in Russia or dependencies on Russian logistics networks must monitor the unfolding situation closely, as further attacks might exacerbate supply chain uncertainties and complicate compliance with sanctions regimes.
